Registering with CASNOS as a self-employed person
Anyone who works on their own account in Algeria (trader, craftsperson, liberal profession, majority manager of a SARL) must register with CASNOS, the social security fund for non-salaried workers, within 10 days of starting their activity. You apply online on the Damancom portal or at the CASNOS office for your place of business. Registration opens your rights and triggers a yearly contribution of 15% of your contribution base, at least 43,200 DA a year at the current minimum wage.

What this form is for
Registration puts you in the social security scheme for non-salaried workers. It is what gives you health cover and pension rights for the activity you run on your own account. Without it, you also cannot obtain the CASNOS up-to-date certificate (attestation de mise à jour), which administrations and public tenders often ask for.
CASNOS gives you a registration number. You keep it: if you later start another activity, you declare it, but your number stays the same.

Who must file it
Every non-salaried person who works on their own account must register. In practice:
- a trader registered in the trade register (registre du commerce) as an individual;
- the majority managing partner of a SARL, and the sole partner who manages an EURL;
- the partners of an SNC (general partnership), who have trader status;
- a craftsperson holding a craftsman card;
- liberal professions (doctor, lawyer, architect, licensed consultant...);
- a farmer holding a farmer card;
- a self-entrepreneur (auto-entrepreneur) listed in the national register.
Registration is personal. In a company, each person concerned has their own number and pays their own contribution.

Filling it in, step by step
- 1
Gather the documents
Identity card, trade register extract (or licence, craftsman card), articles of association if you are in a company, residence certificate and certificate of existence. Scan them as readable PDFs.
- 2
Write down the deadline
Count 10 days from the date on your proof of activity. Do not wait for other steps: the period is already running.
- 3
Open Damancom or go to the office
On Damancom, choose the registration request. At the office, ask for the non-salaried registration form.
- 4
Fill in your civil status
Surname and first names exactly as on the birth certificate, 18-digit NIN, date and place of birth, home address.
- 5
Fill in the activity
Trade register or licence number, activity title and code, legal form, creation and start dates, business address.
- 6
Attach the proof and send
Add the proof of activity. Check every field before confirming, then keep the confirmation or receipt.
- 7
Diary your deadlines
Declare your base before 1 March and pay before 30 June, every year. Once you are up to date, request your up-to-date certificate.
Where to file it
Online, on Damancom
The CASNOS Damancom portal offers a remote registration request in three steps: civil status, contact details, then details of the activity (trade register or licence number, activity title and code, legal form, creation and start dates, address). You then attach proof of the activity.
At a CASNOS office
You can also file at the CASNOS office covering your place of business, meaning the address in the trade register. For a company using a domiciliation address, this is the registered office address.
If you start a new activity at another address, go to the office for that location and say that you are already registered.
What Neuron does
You can do everything yourself with this guide, for free: Neuron does not fill in this form. To hand over the whole business setup, full support costs 50,000 DA for a sole trader and 60,000 DA for a company, 10,000 DA less with domiciliation at Neuron (official fees excluded).
Two ways to get it done
Do it yourself with this guide, or hand us the whole setup file.

Deadlines
You have 10 days from the start of the activity. For CASNOS, the start date is the date on your proof of activity: trade register extract, licence, craftsman card or farmer card.
Late registration can lead to a late-filing penalty. The period runs even if you have no client and no turnover yet.
| Step | Deadline | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | 10 days after the activity starts | Apply on Damancom or at the office |
| Declaring the contribution base | 1 March every year | Declare your business income, backed by your tax or accounting documents |
| Paying the contribution | 30 June every year | Pay 15% of the base, at least 43,200 DA |
Common mistakes
- Waiting for the NIF or NIS before registering: the 10-day period starts from the trade register date, not from the end of other steps.
- Assuming every SARL manager goes to CASNOS: a paid minority or non-partner manager normally falls under CNAS.
- Writing your name differently from the birth certificate, or getting one character of the trade register number wrong.
- Thinking registration is enough: you must then declare your base before 1 March and pay before 30 June, every year.
- Relying on the old 32,400 DA minimum: since decree 26-257, the minimum follows the yearly minimum wage.
- Not declaring a new activity or a change of business address.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to register if I have no turnover yet?
Yes. The 10-day period starts from the start of the activity, meaning the date of your trade register extract or licence, not your first client. With no income, you contribute on the minimum base.
How much will I pay in the first year?
For the first year of activity, Decree 26-257 sets the base at the yearly minimum wage, and the contribution is 15% of that base. With a minimum wage of 24,000 DA a month, that comes to 43,200 DA for the year. If you start mid-year, ask the office for the exact amount due. Our CASNOS calculator works it out for a given income.
I am a self-entrepreneur: how much will I pay?
You can choose to pay 24,000 DA a year, an exceptional measure set by Executive Decree No. 26-257 (Official Journal No. 53 of 23 July 2026). Otherwise you pay the standard contribution: 15% of the base, at least 43,200 DA a year in 2026.
I manage a SARL: CASNOS or CNAS?
If you are the majority partner, you are non-salaried and register with CASNOS. If you are a minority partner or not a partner and the company pays you, you normally fall under CNAS, and the company declares you as an employee.
Can I register without going to an office?
Yes, the CASNOS Damancom portal offers online registration: civil status, contact details, activity, then a supporting document to attach. The office for your place of business remains an option.
I am starting a second activity: will I get a new number?
No. You declare the new activity and keep your registration number. If it is at another address, go to the office for that location and say you are already registered.
What happens if I register after the 10 days?
You may face a late penalty. The simplest course is to put things right straight away: the year's contribution is due in any case.
Can Neuron handle the registration for me?
No, CASNOS registration is not part of form filling: Neuron only fills in setup forms (trade register, G no. 8, beneficial owners, NIS) and does not handle social security returns. This guide is enough to do it yourself. If you want to hand over the whole business setup, full support costs 50,000 DA for a sole trader and 60,000 DA for a company, 10,000 DA less with domiciliation at Neuron (official fees excluded).
Legal basis (5 texts)
Sets the obligations of persons subject to social security, including declaring and registering with the competent fund.
Organises social security for non-salaried persons working on their own account: contribution base, rate and payment.
Rewrites article 14 of decree 15-289: 15% rate (7.5% social insurance, 7.5% pension), yearly base no lower than the yearly minimum wage and no higher than 20 times that amount. For the first year of activity, the base is set at the yearly minimum wage. As an exceptional measure, a self-entrepreneur may choose to pay 24,000 DA a year as their contribution.
Official sourcesRequires a yearly base declared and backed by tax or accounting documents no later than 1 March, and allows a payment plan for a person in difficulty who is up to date for previous years.
Official sourcesSets the guaranteed national minimum wage (SNMG) at 24,000 DA a month from 1 January 2026, i.e. 288,000 DA a year: this is the minimum CASNOS base.
