Becoming a self-entrepreneur: the checklist, step by step

To become a self-entrepreneur (auto-entrepreneur), you register online in the national register kept by ANAE, which issues your card. Within 30 days of the card, you file the declaration of existence at the tax office to get your NIF. You also enrol with CASNOS within 10 days of starting the activity, and you can open a commercial bank account. There is no trade register, no articles and no notary: this list gives, step by step, the documents to prepare and what you get.

Before you register: check you are eligible

  • Your activity is on ANAE's official list. Liberal professions, regulated activities and crafts are excluded.
  • Your expected yearly turnover stays under 5,000,000 DA.
  • You meet the conditions of Law No. 22-23: legal working age, nationality and residence conditions.
  • You work alone, in your own name.

1. Your business address: home or shared workspace

The law lets you base the activity at your home or in a shared workspace. If your home serves as the business address, it cannot be seized for that activity's debts. The ANAE platform and then the tax office ask for this address.

1 documents0 / 1

At Neuron Cowork in Dely Brahim, domiciliation costs 6,000 DA a month, with a notarised contract for 1 or 2 years, ready within 3 days at most once you bring your ID and your birth certificate.

2. ANAE: online registration and the card

You apply to the national register on the platform of ANAE (National Agency for Self-Entrepreneurs). The platform itself sets the required file: follow the list it shows on the day you apply.

5 documents0 / 5

You get: the self-entrepreneur card, issued for 5 years, showing your national registration number. The application is processed within 3 working days at most. From your account, you can download an extract of the national register at any time.

3. Tax office: declaration of existence, NIF and initialled ledger

File the declaration of existence (form G n°8) at your tax office within 30 days of getting the card, to obtain your NIF (tax identification number). Ask the same office to number and initial the ledger where you will record every receipt and every expense: do it before your first invoice.

6 documents0 / 6

You get: your NIF, the certificate of existence and the initialled ledger. Your invoices carry no VAT: the self-entrepreneur's IFU (single flat-rate tax) covers it.

4. CASNOS: your enrolment

The law requires you to register with CASNOS, the social security fund for non-salaried workers, within 10 days of starting the activity, online on Damancom or at the office. When you enrol, ask the office how to take up the flat 24,000 DA a year option, if you choose it. Otherwise, the standard contribution is 15% of the contribution base, with a minimum of 43,200 DA a year in 2026.

4 documents0 / 4

You get: your CASNOS enrolment. From the third year of activity, the contribution cannot be lower than the average contribution for your activity in your wilaya (province).

5. Bank: the commercial bank account

The status entitles you to a commercial bank account. Run all your business takings through it, so your ledger and your returns match. Each bank sets its own list of documents: ask for it before your appointment.

3 documents0 / 3

You get: your RIB (bank account details). If you work for clients abroad, their payment must reach a bank account in Algeria.
